About
Tuomas Antero Turunen is an award-winning Finnish jazz pianist, known as a solo artist and as a member of several highly acclaimed Nordic jazz groups. He is a frequent performer at the top jazz events in Finland including Pori Jazz, Tampere Jazz Happening, Jyväskylä Summer Jazz and Jazz-Espa as well as at other European festivals such as Jazz Baltica, Montreux Jazz Festival, Getxo Jazz, Swedish Jazz Celebration and Jazzkaar. Outside of Europe Tuomas has performed e.g. at the legendary Rainbow Jazz Club in South Africa. Tuomas has released a dozen of albums with his different groups and has had an honor to work with many wonderful musicians all around the world, e.g. Martina Almgren, Jukka Perko, Sidney Rash, Gine Anderssen and Pekka Sarmanto. Tuomas lived in Sweden from 2004 until 2009 and studied jazz piano at the Music Academy of Gothenburg under professors Lars Jansson and Anders Jormin. He received the Jazz Award of of Swedish Royal Music Academy in 2009 and won the jury's special prize at the piano competition of Montreux Jazz Festival 2010. At present, Tuomas lives in France and works as a composer, freelancer musician, educator and as the development manager of CIU. |
